What is this project?
This University project involved developing a conceptual interactive advertising campaign for Duolingo, a popular language-learning platform. The campaign aimed to engage users by challenging them to participate in a fun, quick language quiz, offering personalized digital badges based on their performance. Users could then share their results on social media, challenge friends, and compete for leaderboard spots. The goal was to create a viral, interactive experience that would promote Duolingo's brand in a playful, engaging way while encouraging users to download the app or engage more frequently.
How did I prepare?
To prepare for the campaign, I conducted research on Duolingo's existing brand identity, looking at their tone, visuals, and how they engage with their audience. I explored various interactive ad formats, including quizzes, games, and social media challenges, to find an approach that would resonate with Duolingo's target demographic, primarily Gen Z and millennials. I also reviewed the best practices in creating interactive, shareable content, ensuring that the campaign would be easy to use, incentivizing, and visually appealing. From there, I outlined the core components of the campaign, including the quiz format, rewards system, and social media integration, before refining the concept into a detailed proposal.
How did I put my plan into action?
Putting the plan into action, I created a mock-up of the interactive ad campaign, focusing on user flow and interface design. The ad would appear on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where users could easily engage with the quiz, see their results, and share them on social media. I designed the quiz to be simple but fun, with interactive buttons and visually engaging elements that reflected Duolingo’s playful aesthetic. Additionally, I included a leaderboard feature to encourage friendly competition and social interaction. I tested the ad's usability by considering how users would interact with it and adjusted the design for clarity and ease of use. This process ensured the ad was both engaging and aligned with Duolingo’s brand.
What were my results and lessons?
The result of this project was a polished concept for a Duolingo campaign that combined education with entertainment. While the campaign is hypothetical, it could have a significant impact on Duolingo by driving user engagement, increasing app downloads, and enhancing brand visibility through social media shares. One of the main challenges I faced was ensuring the quiz was both fun and effective, without overwhelming users or making it too difficult. To overcome this, I simplified the quiz structure and kept the user interface intuitive. Additionally, I had to balance creativity with practicality, ensuring that the campaign could be realistically implemented on social media platforms. Through this project, I learned the importance of aligning design with brand values, understanding user behavior, and the value of interactive elements in driving user engagement.
