What is this project?

I was hired to create merchandise, including multiple posters and Spotify podcast covers, for the Curious Cat Podcast, an international podcast. The goal was to design visually engaging assets that would not only capture the essence of the podcast but also resonate with its diverse, global audience. Each episode of the podcast covers different topics, so the challenge was to design assets that reflected the unique themes of each special episode while maintaining a cohesive look that fit the brand of Curious Cat Podcast. This involved close collaboration with the client to refine each design through several rounds of feedback and critique, ensuring the final products met their vision and expectations.

How did I prepare?

To prepare for the project, I created a survey for the client to gather essential information about their podcast, audience, and brand identity. This allowed me to better understand the international scope of the podcast and its diverse listenership. I also conducted interviews with the client, asking specific questions about the tone of the podcast, the themes of upcoming episodes, and any visual elements they wanted to incorporate into the designs. By gathering this information, I was able to tailor my designs to reflect the podcast's wide-ranging topics and global appeal. This research phase was crucial for creating designs that would both connect with listeners and help the podcast stand out on platforms like Spotify.

How did I put my plan into action?

Once I had gathered all the necessary information, I began working on initial concepts for the posters and podcast covers. I explored various creative directions based on the themes of each special episode, considering how to visually represent the podcast’s diverse topics while ensuring the designs were in line with the podcast's established aesthetic. Throughout the design process, I engaged in several critique sessions with the client, presenting my work and refining the designs based on their feedback. These sessions were instrumental in exploring new ideas and making adjustments to elements like typography, color schemes, and imagery to ensure the designs effectively captured the spirit of each episode while maintaining a cohesive brand identity.

What were my results and lessons?

The final designs were well-received by the client and their international audience, with positive feedback on how the posters and Spotify podcast covers visually represented the podcast's engaging, thought-provoking nature. The challenge of balancing creativity with the client’s brand guidelines, while also considering the global audience, was a rewarding experience. Through continuous communication and feedback, I was able to create designs that felt both fresh and aligned with the podcast’s identity. This project reinforced the importance of understanding the target audience, the iterative design process, and the value of critique in shaping a successful final product. The Curious Cat Podcast project helped me further hone my skills in creating designs that are adaptable and resonate across diverse cultural contexts.
